BASH
BASH is a high-energy, empowering workshop blending zumba, self-defence and disco, designed for women, girls and gender-marginalised people who want to move, shout and take up space. BASH invites participants to dance like they’re in a 1980s workout video while learning practical self-defence skills and no-nonsense safety strategies. With a focus on joy, liberation and confidence, this one-hour session welcomes all fitness levels and abilities — no experience needed, just come as you are.

At Calico, we approach self-defence not as a martial art, but as a set of accessible, evidence-based techniques designed to work in real-life, high-stress situations.
For us, BASH is all about teaching breakaway disengagement techniques that equip individuals with skills to safely separate from physical aggression or threatening situations, prioritising personal safety and minimising harm.
Self-defence isn’t about fighting — it’s about making safe, confident choices in moments of threat, with skills you can actually use.
We are not experts in self-defense or martial arts, so we have collaborated with professionals to understand how we can feel more confident during a night out. If you’re looking for in-depth training on self-defence, we recommend:
