YOUNG ARTIVISTS

The Young Artivist Incubator is our pilot education and outreach programme teaching young people to harness their creativity for good. The project invites young creatives aged 18-25 based in Birmingham to join the Calico team, and create their own artivism campaign about a topic that is important to them.

The young artivist incubator has been run for individual campaigns, as well as group projects within school/college settings. The programme follows Calico’s artivism toolkit, in a step-by-step guide to producing creative campaigns that can make a difference.

‘You Don’t Look Like You Have An Eating Disorder’ was a campaign by Ruby Abbas (she/her) which used contemporary dance and spoken word, captured through photography and video, to demystify stereotypes around eating disorders.

‘ Black Regency’ is a campaign by Zara Richards Scott (she/they),  a young artist, specialising in fashion styling and photography. ‘Black Regency’ uses photography, fashion and poetry to capture and celebrate positive narratives of the black community.
